In the world of physics there is a principle called “wave– particle duality”. Especially light has a dual character; consisting of waves and particles at the same time. The famous physicist and Nobel Prize winner Richard Feynman stated: “Light behave in a way that is like nothing that you have ever seen before. Your experience with things that you have seen before is incomplete. The behavior of things on a very tiny scale is simply different.”

In his kinetic brooches, Michael Berger plays with light. The glass pieces seem to have a certain color—but they change with the slightest interactive movement of the wearer. The tiny particles in the coating of the dichroic glass used create a surprising color-changing effect, making it behave in a way you’ve never seen before.

“The works by this artist are a multidisciplinary materialization of an ideal space, in which poetry and mathematics are unified without any trace of dissonance or conflict. He is one of the few artists who advances a high level of thoroughness and excellence in the pieces he creates, establishing a standard for the idea of perfection. Romanian Jewelry Week is honored to award Michael Berger for his consistency in being innovative, provocative and inspirational.” (David Sandu, Founder and Director of Assamblage)
